I’ve noticed that there appears to be a halo around the flowers once they have been inverted. Can you briefly explain why this is, please.

Michael, if you look at the image closely, I do not think you will see anything like a halo, only areas that are bright. These bright area were dark (perhaps almost black) before the inversion, which is why they become bright (almost white). In any case, the impact of the invert adjustment is under control of the operator, and can be toned down if it is too much for the artistic vision intended.
