A Matter of Perspective, photo by Harold Davis. View this image larger.
This image is a trick because the convergence of lines depicted is not possible as a matter of perspective. Yet the image is apparently plausible. Can you spot how I pulled it off?

5 Feb 2010As you say, the perspective is impossible. The upper pipe extends to infinity, but the lower parts do not. My best guess is that in Photoshop a copy of the pipeline was extracted, added to a new layer, obversed, free transformed, moved under the background layer, transparency adjusted, and, possibly some of the asphalt masked out.
N.B. I have since been corrected by Mr. Davis: ” I didn’t free transform the layer copy, I scaled it both up and down (so two copies).”
P.S. I don’t know how to the scaling. Guess I will have to buy the book.
